30/09/2008 EQUINE - RIDE WELLAND - KEEP SAFE EVENTS
Curtis Parkinson were pleased to be invited by Ride Welland to provide a presentation at their Keep Safe events. These events were held on the 17th September at Whissendine Rutland and on the 25th September at Lowick Northamptonshire. They were both half day events which were organised by Elizabeth England of The Country Land & Business Association and were an opportunity for Yard Owners and Managers in Ride Welland to network and receive practical guidance from experts to assist them in the running and management of their Yards.
Each event commenced with a detailed and helpful talk of practical crime prevention by Hugh Crouch of Leicestershire Constabulary. Insurance advice was provided by the NFU and after a short break the topic was risk assessment and health and safety.
The highlight of both days was undoubtedly the entrance of the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service who were there to assist with regard to practical fire regulations and as with Hugh Crouch, they did a site inspection pointing out dangers and areas where things could be improved.
Each event culminated with a talk from Bill Martin of Curtis Parkinson's Employment and Equine Law Department. Bill explored whether someone was either a worker, an employee or indeed self-employed in the equine environment and the legal consequences of each status.
The events were thoroughly enjoyed by both speakers and delegates. The information packs were helpful and innovative. Information was acquired in a relaxed and casual setting. A full report of the event together with photographs will be appearing in next month's Equestrian Life.
If you would like us to come and do a talk at your venue, or if you would like to discuss the employment status of your staff, then Bill Martin will be pleased to help you.
