04/01/2008      Stub it out or get a fine!

Employers throughout England and Wales should now be planning how they are to meet new anti-smoking guidelines, or receive a possible government fine!

Bill Martin, an Associate with Curtis Parkinson Solicitors, comments: “Although this might seem a little early, employers should now be well down the planning route of how they are to meet the anti-smoking guidelines set out within The Health Bill, which comes into effect by the 1st of July 2007.”
He continues: “This is wide reaching policy that prohibits smoking in enclosed public places, including the work place, government and NHS Buildings.”

Although the law is yet to be completely finalised there will be many issues to consider with this policy, for example: is there to be a designated smoking area and if so, where this is to be situated.
