Clients Pledge Over £3.35 Million for Cancer Research

The clients of Curtis Parkinson have been recognised by Cancer Research UK for supporting their Free Will Service for almost 20 years. Since 1999, the generosity of their clients means that over £3.35 million worth of gifts have been pledged by those choosing to leave a legacy to the charity in their will. Solicitor and Notary Public Kenneth Curtis & his specialist team were presented with a Gold certificate to acknowledge the firm’s ongoing support from their offices in Bingham, Bulwell and Clifton.

Cancer Research UK Free Will Service

The firm has supported the no-obligation Free Will Service for nearly 20 years, benefiting many clients aged 55 and over, looking to write a will or update an existing one. As part of the service, Curtis Parkinson provides information to those wishing to leave a legacy gift to Cancer Research UK.

One of the country’s leading cancer charities, Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for its research. Over many years it has relied heavily on the generosity of people leaving gifts in their wills. Indeed, over one-third of its research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, is funded through supporters leaving a legacy to the charity.

Partner Kenneth Curtis, commented, “We are particularly proud to have been able to offer this service with Cancer Research UK in Nottinghamshire since the scheme started. The £3.3 million pledged by our generous clients will provide sustainability for the work of Cancer Research UK. As an illness, cancer touches so many of us, so we appreciate what a difference leaving a legacy can have – both from the donor’s and charity’s perspectives.”

Clare Moore, Director of Legacies at Cancer Research UK, explained: “We all reach a stage at some point in our lives where we start to look ahead and consider what will happen to our financial affairs in the future, when we may no longer be around.

“At Cancer Research UK, we work with local law firms to offer people (aged 55 and over) the chance to make an all-important first will or to update an existing one. The service has grown in popularity over the past few years and whilst it’s provided free of any obligation, most people choose to kindly leave a gift to our charity.

“By offering Cancer Research UK’s Free Will Service for such a long time, Curtis Parkinson is very well informed about our work and are pivotal in providing support and advice to those keen to be part of our life-saving research.

“These gifts will go a long way towards helping our scientists, doctors and nurses to beat cancer sooner.”

Research Constantly Improving Survival Rates

Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. Every step taken by its doctors, nurses and scientists relies on donations from the public and the kindness of supporters who choose to leave a gift in their will.
